Itinerary

  1. Brookfields Vineyards

    one hour Admission included

First stop: founded in 1937, Brookfields is Hawke's Bay's oldest boutique winery, a family-run gem tucked among the vines at Meeanee near Napier. Owner and winemaker Peter Robertson has been crafting award-winning wines here since 1977, guided by a simple belief: great wine is made in the vineyard. Small production means real personality, from the much-loved Marshall Bank Chardonnay to rich Hillside Syrah and the Gold Label Cabernet Merlot. Expect a warm, unhurried welcome at the rustic cellar door, often from the family themselves.

  2. Church Road Winery Cellar Door

    45 min Admission included

Step into more than a century of New Zealand wine history at Church Road. Founded in 1897 in Taradale, it's one of the country's oldest wineries and the home of winemaking pioneer Tom McDonald, who helped put Hawke's Bay's Bordeaux-style reds on the world stage. Taste elegant Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. With its relaxed setting, Church Road is the perfect blend of heritage, great wine and Hawke's Bay hospitality

  3. Trinity Hill Wines

    one hour Admission included

In 1993 Trinity Hill became one of the first wineries to plant on the now-famous Gimblett Gravels, a barren stretch of stony former riverbed that turned out to be perfect for red wine. Today it's celebrated worldwide for Homage, a benchmark New Zealand Syrah, alongside elegant Chardonnay and Bordeaux-style reds. The striking cellar door, designed by architect Richard Priest, has soaring five-metre ceilings and a view into the white barrel hall. The cellar door was recently awarded Hawkes Bay's best: come with us to discover why, enjoy a premium platter for lunch and find out why the Gimblett Gravels is one of the world's most exciting wine districts.

  4. Te Mata Park

    15 min

Rising 399 metres above Havelock North, Te Mata Peak offers the best view in Hawke's Bay and is one of Hawkes Bay's "must dos". From the summit, take in a sweeping 360° panorama over the vineyards and orchards of the Heretaunga Plains, out to Cape Kidnappers and Mahia Peninsula, and on clear days all the way to snow-capped Mount Ruapehu. Look back from the plains and the ridgeline forms the famous "Sleeping Giant": in Māori legend, the chief Te Mata, who died trying to bite through the hills to win the heart of Hinerākau.

Soak up a view that shows why this region is so special.

  5. Napier
