Itinerary

  1. Stop 1

    40 min

Your first stop is a small, unassuming local snack shop that has been serving Changsha residents for decades. It is a simple neighborhood place rather than a tourist attraction, and many of its customers are local residents and students.

Guests can try several traditional Changsha snacks, such as gua liangfen (starch jelly noodles), mung bean soup, egg and scallion pancakes, sweet fermented rice with egg, and Changsha-style pasta depending on group size and availability.

  2. Stop 2

    20 min

After your first food stop, we take a short walk to a local public space where guests can experience a more everyday side of Changsha.

This is not a typical tourist attraction. Local families come here for children's activities, swimming, walking, and relaxing. It is a chance to slow down, let the food settle, and see how local residents spend their free time.

  3. Stop 3

    30 min

Next, we visit a famous traditional pastry brand with a long history in Changsha.

Here guests can explore a more delicate side of traditional Chinese sweets and pastries. Depending on availability, selections may include peach blossom pastries, ox-tongue pastries, traditional Chinese pepper cookies, mung bean cakes, crispy rice snacks with crab-roe flavor, and salted egg yolk pastries.

Guests can learn about traditional Chinese pastry culture, including how different textures, fillings, shapes, and levels of sweetness are used in traditional desserts.

  4. Stop 4

    20 min

We then visit a local street stall to try tangyou baba, one of Changsha's most recognizable traditional sweets.

These small glutinous rice cakes are fried with sugar until slightly crispy on the outside while remaining soft and chewy inside. Tangyou baba is closely connected with local childhood memories and everyday Changsha food culture.

  5. Stop 5

    one hour

Your final stop is a modern tea and café space tucked away in an old street.

This is a chance to relax, enjoy some drinks and desserts, and take part in a simple hands-on local food-making experience. Guests can make a simple local snack themselves rather than just watching a demonstration.
