Itinerary

  1. Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum

    45 min

The ‘Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum’ stands in the Nada Go-go region, a renowned centre for sake production. One of its greatest attractions is that visitors can not only learn about its history but also experience the essence of sake brewing through all five senses.

You can experience first-hand—as if you were actually there—the steaming of rice, the cultivation of koji, and the preparation of moromi (fermenting mash) in huge wooden vats. Furthermore, in the projection mapping theatre, which depicts the four seasons of sake brewing, you can gain a deeper appreciation of the allure of sake through immersive visual presentations.

After the tour, head to the much-anticipated ‘Sake Tasting Corner’. Alongside free tastings of seasonal limited-edition sakes, there are also paid tasting machines where you can sample premium sakes. The adjoining shop offers a wide array of tempting products, including not only sake but also sake lees sweets and amazake soft-serve ice cream.

  2. Stop 2

    45 min

The Kobe Shushinkan is renowned as the home of the ‘Fukuju’ sake brand. Comprising four buildings, including the brewing cellar, it is a complex dedicated to passing on the traditions and culture of sake brewing, where visitors can experience the charm of Japanese sake and warm hospitality.

At the ‘Fukuju Kura’, where the sake is brewed, you can learn about the brewing process clearly and easily. The adjacent ‘Tōmyō Kura’ is the brewery shop where you can taste and purchase the full range of Fukuju products, including limited-edition sake available only here. You can also enjoy sweets such as special soft-serve ice cream and confectionery made from sake lees, making it the perfect place to choose souvenirs. At the Kobe Shushinkan, you can experience the traditions of sake brewing, savour delicious sake and cuisine, and enjoy a truly enriching experience. It is highly recommended not only for sake enthusiasts but also for those who are not particularly fond of alcohol.

  3. Kobe

    2 hours

After learning about Japanese sake, enjoy dinner like a local at a long-established izakaya in Sannomiya. Your guide, a Kobe-based Japanese language teacher, will explain izakaya etiquette, useful toast expressions, how to order food, and Japanese food and drink culture in clear and friendly English.

Dinner will be held at a traditional local izakaya in Sannomiya, where you can enjoy fresh seafood from Akashi, Japanese sake, and Kobe’s rich food culture. This experience is perfect for travelers who want more than sightseeing — a chance to learn, taste, and enjoy an authentic local dining experience.
