Itinerary

  1. Kuanzhai Alley

    one hour

Begin your journey at Kuanzhai Alleys, where history meets modernity. Enter via Wide Alley and admire the relief carvings at No. 19 Demen Renli, a classic Western Sichuan courtyard gate. Wander into Narrow Alley for modern Chengdu vibes: relax in a bamboo chair at Sanlian Taofen Bookstore with an English copy of 《Three Cities》, or sip coffee at %Arabica while admiring the contrast of blue brick walls.

Send postcards at the Panda Post Office in the alley. Learn about the "philosophy of width & narrowness" – Wide Alley housed officials, Narrow Alley hosted bannermen, and Well Alley (Jingxiangzi) was for commoners.

  2. Stop 2

    one hour

Next, head to People’s Park. Try the "three-piece set" – bamboo chair, gaiwan tea, and ear cleaning (采耳) at Heming Teahouse. Observe the unique Chinese social phenomenon of 相亲角 (Blind Date Corner) and learn about its cultural context. Watch long-spouted teapot tea art performances or learn simple mahjong rules.

  3. Taikoo Li

    30 min

Then, visit Taikoo Li. Capture the magical contrast of Daci Temple’s red walls and modern glass facades. Visit Fangsuo Bookstore for English original books under the dome and Shu embroidery notebooks. Enjoy lunch at Chaimen Fan’er, trying their signature Orange-Fragranced Cherry Pork.

  4. Daci Temple

    one hour

You’ll explore the ancient halls, beautifully landscaped courtyards, and learn about the temple’s rich history, traditional architecture, and local cultural significance. We’ll also point out hidden details, share stories about the temple’s role in Chengdu’s past, and introduce you to the peaceful rituals and daily life of the temple community.

  5. Stop 5

    30 min

Wander into Tangpa Street, ranked among the "World’s 50 Coolest Neighborhoods" in 2018. Sip gaiwan coffee at 崇德里 Ruins Restaurant, a renovated historical space.
