Itinerary

  1. Chinese Fishing Nets

    15 min Admission included

The Chinese fishing nets, locally known as "Cheena Vala"are fixed installations on the sea shore for an unusual form of fishing — shore operated lift nets. They are mostly found around Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala. Large mechanical structure is at least 10 m high and comprises a cantilever net suspended over the sea and big stones suspended from ropes as counterweights at the other end. Each of these structures is operated by a team of up to six fishermen.

  2. Fort Kochi Beach

    15 min

Fort kochi beach stretches along one side of the town of Fort Kochi. Fort kochi used to have Fort walls and bastions once upon a time, but not anymore.

  3. Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica

    20 min Admission included

Among the eight basilicas in India, the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Fort Kochi is one of the most magnificent and impressive cathedrals in India. The church is called Santa Cruz because it was founded on May 3, 1505, the feast day of the "Invention of the Holy Cross." A significant amount of demolition and reconstruction had occurred while the church was being built.

  4. Mattancherry Palace

    25 min Admission included

One of the best illustrations of Keralan architecture with hints of colonial influence is the Mattancherry Palace, sometimes referred to as Dutch Palace.

As a gift for King Veera Kerala Verma of the Kochi dynasty, it was constructed by the Portuguese 1545 CE. After undergoing extensive repairs by the Dutch, it became known as the Dutch Palace.

A beautiful collection of murals adorns this two story palace.

  5. Paradesi Synagogue

    20 min Admission included

Nestled in a quiet part of Jew Town, the Paradesi Synagogue dates back over a century and is home to numerous rare antiques. Almost 1500 years after the Jews first established ties with Kerala, the Jewish synagogue was constructed in 1568. It was constructed on property donated by the former Cochin ruler, which is next to Mattancherry Palace.

  6. Cochin Spice Market

    15 min Admission included

With traditional buildings and smell of spices the spice markets in Kochi reminds us of a forgone era.

  7. Jain Temple

    15 min Admission included

A place of worship for the Jain community in Kochi. The temple is well-known for its daily noontime ritual of feeding the pigeons.
