Beomeosa Temple is located on the easte part of Geumjeongsan Mountain in Busan, South Korea. Along with Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, Beomeosa is considered one of the three major temples in the southern region of Korea. The temple was founded by the Buddhist monk Uisang during the reign of King Munmu at Silla Dynasty, and was later renovated during the reign of King Heungdeok. At that time, Beomeosa was a large and important temple. However, it was almost completely destroyed during the Japanese invasions of Korea in 1592. The buildings we see today were rebuilt during the reign of King Gwanghaegun by the Buddhist monks Myojeon and Haemin. Beomeosa has produced many renowned Buddhist masters. It is a temple dedicated to Buddhist practice and is known for its rich traditions and numerous cultural treasures.
