Itinerary

Zemen Monastery

one hour Admission not included

Your private guide will pick you up from your hotel or your address in Sofia at 10:30 in the morning. From there, enjoy a comfortable journey to the Zemen Monastery, located about 70 km southwest of Sofia. The traveling time to Zemen Monastery will be around 1 hour and 30 minutes, and your stay there will be an additional 1 hour. The Zemen Monastery is a serene 11th-century complex nestled in the picturesque Zemen Gorge and is famous for its unique architectural style and stunning frescoes that reflect the art of the First Bulgarian Empire. During your visit, your guide will share fascinating stories and historical insights about this peaceful spiritual retreat.
Sofia History Museum

one hour Admission not included

After exploring Zemen Monastery, return to Sofia for the next highlight: National Museum of History, one of the largest history museums in the Balkans. Located in a former residence of the communist regime, the museum showcases over 650,000 artifacts, including Thracian treasures, medieval relics, and exhibits from Bulgaria’s communist era. Your private guide will take you on an engaging 1 hour long tour of the museum.
Boyana Church

30 min Admission not included

Lastly, you will be taken to visit the Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 11th century. Known for its exquisite 13th-century frescoes, the church is considered one of the precursors of the European Renaissance art. Your guide will explain the symbolism and historical significance of these impressive medieval artworks during your 30-minute visit there.

The tour concludes with a drop-off at your location in Sofia, at around 17:00, or 17:30, depending on the traffic within the city.
