It is a highlight along the National Tourist Road, affectionately known as "The Snow Road," stretching from Aurland to Lærdal. Designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen, the viewpoint was completed in 2006.

This 20-kilometer route descends from Myrdal station, perched 867 meters above sea level, to Flåm, nestled at the edge of the Aurlandsfjord.
