In the middle ages, trade in hides and skins develops in Grasse. This activity generating a strong smell, manufacturers perfume their production of gloves, bags and belts from the Renaissance to meet a fashion now for Italy and the entourage of Queen Catherine de Medici.

Grasse microclimate allows to grow on-site of flowers in delicate fragrances such as rose, jasmine, Daffodil, carnation, orange blossom and violet. Grasse and its surroundings are then covered with fields of flowers and, in 1614, the King recognizes the new corporation of the 'Glovers perfumers.
