Tour Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Islands in 2 Days with Homestay

About this activity

This overnight Titicaca tour offers an intimate blend of adventure, culture, and comfort that goes far beyond a standard day trip. You won’t just see three fascinating islands – you’ll live the culture: walk on floating reed islands at Uros, stay in a Quechua family’s home on Amantani, and meet master weavers on Taquile.

You’ll find yourself high in the hills of Amantani, watching a golden sunset from an ancient inca temple, then dancing all in traditional dress alongside new local friends by night

With an expert guide, you gain insight into each community’s traditions. All the logistics are handled for you, so you can relax and soak up each moment – from the mirror-like morning reflections on the lake to the vibrant textiles being woven before your eyes.

You’ll come away with unforgettable memories: the warmth of an islander’s welcome, the breathtaking 360° panoramas from the mountaintops, and the feeling of having truly connected with the spirit of Lake Titicaca.

Itinerary

Day 1 · Puno - Uros - Amantani

  1. Uros Floating Islands

    one hour Admission included

The Uros are a group of 100 artificial islands made entirely of totora reeds, a plant that grows in the shallow areas of Lake. Stepping onto these islands is like stepping onto a giant floating straw mat.

During your visit, Uros will welcome you onto their islands and into their small houses to show their way of life. You’ll learn how they build the islands, their homes, and even boats.

They’ll likely demonstrate how fresh reeds are added constantly (every few weeks) to maintain the islands. Travelers can interact with the locals, browse handicrafts. One popular activity here is an optional ride on a traditional reed boat, often shaped like puma (extra of 20 soles p/p), the Uros boatmen will take you on a short cruise across the water on one of these hand-made reed vessels

    • a great photo opportunity and a chance to imagine how reed boats were used in ancient times. Visiting the Uros Floating Islands is a fascinating glimpse into a unique culture that has adapted to lake Titicaca.
  2. Centro Ceremonial Pachatata

    3 hours

The main attractions on Amantani are its two mountain peaks, each with ancient ruins at the top. Pachamama (Mother Earth) and Pachatata (Father Earth) are pre-Inca temple sites that locals still use for annual ceremonies. Hiking to one of these summits (about 4,130 m elevation) is a highlight of the tour: at the top, you’ll find the stone remnants of the temple and 360° panoramic views of Lake Titicaca – truly awe-inspiring at sunset

  3. Amantani Island

    one hour

During your stay, you’ll be hosted by a local family in their home, which is a special experience itself. They will cook you meals with local ingredients (expect quinoa soup, potatoes, maybe fried cheese or eggs) and make you feel at home. In the evening, the community often invites visitors to a traditional dance party. You can dress up in the typical attire – men in ponchos and woolen caps, women in embroidered blouses and layered skirts with colorful belts – and dance to live Andean music with your hosts

It’s a fun, family-friendly celebration that showcases the music and happiness of Amantani’s people. Amantani Island is frequently noted as the favorite part of the tour by travelers because of this warm cultural immersion. The chance to live like a local for a day – eat in their kitchen, sleep in their home, and share stories despite language barriers – is what makes Amantani a truly enriching destination.

Day 2 · Amantani - Taquile - Puno

  1. Amantani Island

    1 h 30 min

Delicious breakfast shared with local families on the enchanting Amantani Island. Indulge in traditional delicacies and savor the authentic flavors of this vibrant community, while learning about their unique customs and way of life.

After breakfast, take a leisurely stroll downhill to the main dock, where you'll depart for the next leg of your journey to the captivating Taquile Island

  2. Taquile Island

    5 hours Admission included

During your visit, you’ll walk to the main village at the crest of the island (~3,950 masl). In the Plaza de Armas, there is often a cooperative store where Taquileños sell their hand-made hats, scarves, and textiles. Your guide will point out the distinctive dress of the locals: for example, Taquile men wear different colored hats depending on whether they are single or married (red & white for single, solid red for married), and important community leaders wear special woven belts.

You’ll likely be treated to a demonstration of how the weavings are done or how they use natural dyes from plants and minerals. Then, enjoy a lunch on Taquile .

Before leaving, you can explore a bit on your own: climbing up to a viewpoint, taking photos of the brilliant blue lake contrasting with the island’s red soil and green terraces.

Taquile Island offers a step back in time to an Andean community that has fiercely preserved its identity.
