   We will begin the tour leaving from the center of San Pedro de Atacama towards the Cordillera de la Sal in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on earth, heading to one of its most picturesque points: the Valley of the Moon. The names already give a clear clue to the landscape, where rock formations modeled by erosion, salt mantles and views that will make you feel like on another planet reign.

   We will cross the valley transversally, visiting its famous rock formations: the Tres Marías, the Canyon, the Amphitheater and the Piedra del Coyote. To finish the tour, we will enjoy the sunset from a natural viewpoint, where you can see how the desert is changing color, with large volcanoes on the horizon, offering a spectacle that will leave you speechless.

Day 2 · Tour to Altiplanic Lagoons, Laguna Chaxa, Toconao and Socaire - Miscanti Lagoon, Meñiques Lagoon

   We will leave from San Pedro de Atacama towards the south, crossing the Salar de Atacama basin. First we will visit the town of Toconao, its Church of San Lucas and its old fruit orchards. Then we will go to the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt flat in Chile and the third largest salt flat in the world.

   Once on the salt flat, we will walk along the paths of the Chaxa lagoon, which is part of the Los Flamencos national reserve. This lagoon is a nesting place and habitat for the three species of flamingos that inhabit Chile: Andean flamenco, Chilean flamenco and James flamenco.

   Later, we will visit the Altiplanic lagoons, starting with the Miscanti lagoon. It is a nesting site for the tagua cornuda, bird of the Altiplano, and is located at the foot of the Miscanti hill, in the Andes mountain range next to its sister, the Miñiques lagoon. This lagoon is at the foot of the Miñiques volcano, whose eruption involves the formation of the two lagoons millions of years ago.

   On the way back, we will pass through the town of Socaire, a place that is characterized by the maintenance of cultivated terraces since pre-Hispanic times. In the end, we will reach San Pedro de Atacama.

   Piedras Rojas and Lagunas Altiplánicas will take us through important tourist places within the Atacama desert. To get to the Piedras Rojas lagoon, or the Aguas Calientes salt flat as it is also known, we will have to go up in our vehicle to 3800 meters of altitude and walk for 1 hour and 15 minutes, to see these copper-colored rocks, in addition to the lagoons and salt flats around.
