Tikal Temple III, also known as the Temple of the High Priest, is a funeral-ceremonial temple built in 810 AD under the command of the Mayan king Chi'taam.

It is believed that the temple was built to house the monarch's remains, although they have not yet been found. Temple III is a pyramid structure with a height of 55 meters, being one of the highest temples in Tikal. It is located not far from the Plaza Mayor.

Some records indicate that this square was organized as an astronomical complex. Which in turn is formed by a pyramid aligned with a platform located in an easterly direction.

Part of this building consisted of these temples being used for stargazing. This method was used by the Maya to keep track of the passage of time, according to the astronomical methods they used.

You will know the oldest part of Tikal dating back to 800 BC. It has a 32 meter high pyramid that you can climb.
