A 3-hour drive to Cu Chi district will take you through the typical countryside of southern Vietnam.     he Cu Chi Tunnels are a network of underground tunnels located 55 miles northwest of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). They were carved out by hand and are believed to extend all the way to neighboring Cambodia. The tunnels were used by Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War and served as a base for Communist attacks against nearby areas. Today, Cu Chi Tunnels comprise a popular Saigon tourist destination that provides visitors with an evocative look at Vietnam War history. The tunnels are complex and layered tunnels consisting of connecting rooms, air vents, escape routes and booby traps.
