Bonaventure Cemetery Scenic History Art Symbols and Film Tour

About this activity

There's good reason we were the contract recipients of filmmaker Ken Burns' American Journeys Tour Series! Since 2002, Shannon Scott and his gifted guides have shown visitors not just a cemetery, but a sacred story ground without peer. You'll be awestruck by the beauty and characters buried here, but will marvel at the hidden meanings of esoteric, religious symbols adorning grave art, and how much of it connects to Savannah and our everyday lives. As much as this is a history buff's deluxe day out, Bonaventure is a haven for wildlife with over 100 daily bird species! From owls, hawks, eagles, but also foxes and, at times, dolphins in the river! While a photographer's dream tour, for our film buffs, Bonaventure as a filming location stretches back to the Silent Film Era all the way up to modern-day Film & TV, and of course, is central to everything inspirational to Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil! By tour's end, you'll feel like a mini-expert and glad for the adventure!

Using your ticket

  • Fall in love with us twice by booking your Wandering Historians Downtown Historic District Tour with us & often getting the same great guide! All of our guides are exceptional in all Savannah areas! Promise!
  • Parking & Meeting Point; when arriving to 330 Bonaventure Rd take note of central entrance with granite pillars, statues on top of them. Follow through to the right, placing red brick office building on your right. Exactly 50 feet to first paved road on your LEFT, called Mullryne Way. Take that LEFT. Follow Mullryne Way all the way to the river's edge where you will see a gravel parking lot on right. There's a bridge and marina in distance as a landmark. Park in this lot which is free. Your guide will meet you near picnic tables or in this same parking area. We advise telling UBER/LYFT or TAXI drivers to follow these instructions. If they drop you at front entrance?
