The island is a Wildlife Sanctuary, protected due to the presence of Tuataras, a lizard endemic to New Zealand. These animals used to co-exist with other animals on the island up to the mid 80`s when they were being poached.
Now the guardinas of the islands are in working on the process of re-introduction of the animals to their island home. Come and be part of the journey with us!
