About this activity

Experience Tanzania beyond the classic safari with a journey that combines Kilimanjaro, local culture, hiking and wildlife in one seamless adventure. Rather than spending your entire trip in the safari vehicle, you’ll begin in the foothills of Kilimanjaro with a Materuni waterfall and coffee experience before taking on the Shira Plateau.

A major highlight is the chance to experience Kilimanjaro without committing to a multi-day summit climb. After your Shira Plateau hike, you’ll continue to the Serengeti, where you’ll have time for full-day and half-day game drives across the plains.

With an experienced Tanzanian guide, you can follow wildlife movements and enjoy a more personal safari experience. You’ll then continue to the Ngorongoro Crater for an early morning game drive, giving you the chance to see some of Tanzania’s most remarkable wildlife before returning to Arusha or the airport.

Day 1 · Day 1 – Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi

    Meet your guide at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Moshi. Settle into Dual Mountain Lodge, chosen for its peaceful setting and views towards Kilimanjaro. Enjoy dinner at the lodge and relax before the adventure begins.

Day 2 · Materuni Waterfalls, Coffee & Local Lunch

    After breakfast, head to Materuni Village for a guided walk through the green foothills of Kilimanjaro. The short hike to Materuni Waterfalls is a beautiful introduction to the landscape and a gentle way to prepare your legs for tomorrow’s mountain hike.

    After the waterfall, experience a traditional local coffee-making process before enjoying a freshly prepared local lunch. Return to Moshi in the afternoon for a relaxed evening

Day 3 · Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau Day Hike → Arusha

    Early this morning, check out around 6:00 AM and travel towards western Kilimanjaro for your Shira Plateau day hike. The trail takes you into the high mountain landscape, with impressive views and a taste of the Kilimanjaro experience without undertaking a multi-day summit climb.

    After the hike, continue directly to Arusha rather than returning to Moshi. Arrive at Mvuli Hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4 · Arusha to Serengeti

    Today the landscape changes dramatically as you travel towards the Serengeti. Pass through the Great Rift Valley and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping along the way for a picnic lunch.

    Continue towards Serengeti National Park and, once inside, begin your first game drive. Keep your eyes open for elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and other wildlife as you make your way towards camp.

Day 5 · Full-Day Serengeti Safari

    Spend the entire day exploring the Serengeti with your experienced guide. Rather than following a fixed route, your guide will read the landscape, fresh tracks and wildlife activity to decide where to spend your time.

    For those looking for something extra special, a hot-air balloon safari can be arranged in the morning, followed by a full day of game viewing.

Day 6 · Serengeti to Ngorongoro

    Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti before travelling towards the Ngorongoro highlands. Along the way, you can choose to visit a Maasai village or Olduvai Gorge, depending on your interests and timing.

    Continue to the crater rim, where the cooler air and dramatic views create a completely different atmosphere from the Serengeti plains.

Day 7 · Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha or Airport

    Start early and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a morning game drive. The crater is home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, and with luck you may see lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, hippos, zebras and even the endangered black rhino.

    After lunch, begin the drive back to Arusha or continue to the airport for your onward flight.
