About this activity

A black raven lands in the square. Its caw wakes you from your sleep on the church stairs. You are Diego Velázquez, the greatest painter of the Spanish Golden Age, and you have been a ghost for centuries. Tonight, something is different. Tonight is your Day of Reckoning.

This self-guided ghost quest takes you on walk through the heart of Madrid.

Using the Questo app on your smartphone, you follow Velázquez's search at 12 stops: from Plaza de Santiago and Plaza Ramales, where his burial church once stood, to the Puerta del Sol, the Museo del Jamón, the world's oldest theatre at Teatro Español, and the Velázquez monument outside the Prado Museum. Solve cryptic riddles, encounter royal ghosts, and piece together the mystery of a lost body.

Best after dark. A phone flashlight may help with clues. Explore Madrid's historic streets at your own pace. Do not enter the venues.

Meeting point

The game starts at the Church of Santiago y San Juan. After booking, we'll message you a code and activation link. Activate with your own email, then log in to the Questo app with that email. No message? Open the app, tap "Bought a quest somewhere else?" and enter your booking reference number.

End point

You will finish around Museo del Prado.

Using your ticket

Thank you for booking with Questo. Your code is your booking reference number: the digits after "BR-".

Here's how to play it:

1. Activate your quest. Go to the unlock page on the Questo website (questoapp.com/unlock), enter your email and your code.

2. Download the Questo app on your phone (App Store or Google Play) and create an account with the same email used for activation.

3. Once you're logged in to the Questo app, open the Quests section. Your quest will be there, ready to be played.

IMPORTANT

Booked more than one ticket? You can invite the other participants right after activating, or later from the Quests section in the app.
If you don't see your quest in the Quests section in the Questo app, tap "Bought a quest somewhere else?" and enter your code again. You can also upload a screenshot of your booking confirmation there.

Download the story and the map before you head out. After that, it works without internet.
