    James Scott Memorial Fountain is one of Belle Isle’s most impressive landmarks. Completed in 1925, this grand Beaux-Arts fountain was designed by architect Cass Gilbert and sculptor Herbert Adams. It was named after James Scott, a controversial Detroit businessman who left money to build the fountain. With its marble, bronze sculptures, and large water basin, the fountain offers beautiful views of the Detroit skyline and Windsor across the river.

Just a note about the three attractions here on Belle Isle. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 AM to 5 PM, and it’s closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The Belle Isle Aquarium is open Thursday through Sunday, from 10 AM to 4 PM. And the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 AM to 5 PM. So, depending on the day you visit, some of these attractions may be closed. If they’re open, we’ll be happy to take you inside and give you time to explore.
