At the steep cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, visitors step into a key moment of the D-Day landings during World War II. This headland, located between Utah and Omaha Beach, was an important German defense position with strong fortifications and artillery that threatened the Allied forces.
On June 6, 1944, U.S. Army Rangers climbed the nearly 100-foot cliffs under heavy enemy fire to take control of the site. Their bravery played an important role in the success of the Normandy invasion. Today, Pointe du Hoc remains a powerful historical site, marked by bomb craters, damaged bunkers, and a monument honoring the Rangers’ sacrifice. Walking through the area offers a meaningful look into the events that took place here and the courage of those involved.
