Opened in 1927, this impressive steel railway bridge was a technical marvel at the time. It was the first vertical-lift bridge in Western Europe and played a vital role for years in the rail connection between Rotterdam-South and the city center.

The tower was built for the 1960 Floriade and designed by architect Hugh Maaskant. Originally 101 meters tall, the rotating Euroscoop was added in 1970, allowing visitors to ascend to a height of 185 meters.
