The Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere itself is already a cradle of many stories, but the wonder continues when you go downstairs and explore the underground.
The church was built in the very place where Saint Cecilia was killed - her own house. So under the church you can visit the crypt with the archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman insula (apartment building) of Cecilia.

For some people this is their everyday commute!

The Fontana dell’Acqua Paola is a spectacular fountain that was designed in the 17th century by Giovanni Fontana. It’s a great stop for memorable pics on your way up to the top of the hill.

This is one the best viewpoints in Rome. Surprisingly, the Janiculum hill isn’t one of Rome’s original “seven hills,” as it technically sits outside the boundaries of the original ancient city. However, don't missi to make your way to the terrace at Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, near Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument for a stunning view of of the ancient city. Here, for over 100 years, a cannon has been fired daily at 12:00 PM.

The Portico d’Ottavia is an ancient gate built around 24 BC by Augustus. This area, called the Jewish Ghetto, is one of the most unique spots in the eternal city. For Colosseum vibes without the crowds, visit the nearby Theatre of Marcellus, an open-air amphitheater completed around 13 BC – 100 years before the Colosseum. Commissioned by Julius Caesar (though completed after his death), it held 20,000 people, making it the largest amphitheater in Rome at the time.
