   Passion River (rio La Pasion)

   The La Pasión River is a 345 km river that runs through northern Guatemala, mainly in the department of Petén. The river originates in the mountains of northern Alta Verapaz, under the name of the Chajmaic River, then changes to the Sebol River and finally becomes the La Pasión River. It flows west until it joins the Salinas River to form the Usumacinta River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The La Pasión River basin is home to several important Mayan archaeological sites. The river and its surroundings are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including crocodiles, iguanas, howler monkeys and numerous species of birds and fish. It was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is located within the jungle of the Maya Biosphere. During your tour along the trails, a guide will accompany you and tell you the history of the Mayan plazas, temples and structures, as well as the names of the flora and fauna that you see in their natural state.
