    Our tour starts from Cava dei Balestrieri, an important historical landmark of San Marino. Since the 14th century there is evidence of a corps of crossbowmen with the task of defending the city walls and maintaining public order.

    The Basilica del Santo also commonly known as the Basilica of San Marino is the main sacred building in the city, dedicated to and containing the relics of San Marino, the patron saint and founder of the country.

    Next to the Basilica is the small church of San Pietro, dating back to the 16th century and rebuilt in 1826. According to legend, the apse of the little church is entirely carved out of living rock, and inside there are two niches which, according to legend, served as beds for San Marino and San Leo.

    Piazza della Libertà is the beating heart of San Marino and hosts some of the most significant buildings of the Republic, such as the Palazzo Pubblico, the Secretariat of Tourism and the Philatelic Office.
