Helsingørs maritime history is as deep and wide as the waters it overlooks.
This is a city that has watched sailors and ships come and go like the ebb and flow of the tide. In front of the city stands the magnificent Kronborg Castle, its spires piercing the sky with authority.
The castle is furthermore immortalized by Shakespeare as Elsinore, the setting for his tragic play "Hamlet".
The Sound Dues, locally known as Øresundstolden, were a toll paid here to the Danish Crown.
