Auckland is known as the City of Sails, but some think it should be called the City of Volcanoes! Gain insight into Auckland's unique volcanic geology and explore its rich Maori history on this half-day tour from Auckland. Embark on short hikes to the summits and craters of four of Auckland's youngest volcanoes, Mt. Wellington, Mangere Mountain, One Tree Hill, and Mt Eden, with a guide. Along the way, keep watch for native New Zealand wildlife and admire panoramic views over the city. Enjoy a stop for a classic New Zealand meat pie or other snack from a local bakery (own cost). At the end of the tour, we can drop you off anywhere in the city. Please note, volcanoes visited are inactive.

    Walk to the crater near the peak of Mt Wellington, a 10,000 year old volcano. Learn about the Maori settlements on the volcanoes, and an introduction to the Auckland Volcanic Field.

  3. Mangere Mountain

    Walk around the craters of Mangere Mountain. Learn more about the large Maori settlement on the volcano and enjoy views of the Manukau Harbour, the west coast of Auckland.

  4. One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie)

    Enjoy views of One Tree Hill as you are given a summary of New Zealand history, focusing on the early interaction between the British and Maori. Then drive around Cornwall Park, to see the crater and maybe even some sheep!

  5. Mount Eden

    Walk around the crater of Mt Eden. Enjoy the magnificent views of the city and the surrounding volcanoes from the summit, and get some great photos!
