We head through the lush Huon Valley to Tahune Adventures, where forest walks await. Brave the Airwalk, a suspended path 40m above ground, or cross the thrilling Swinging Bridges over the Huon River. Prefer something gentler? Stroll riverside among ancient Huon Pines.

Then it’s off to Hastings Caves for a peaceful lunch, a dip in the 28°C thermal pool, and the Hot Springs Nature Trail. Afterwards, join a Parks & Wildlife guide for an unforgettable tour of Newdegate Cave, a dramatic dolerite cavern filled with stalactites and flowstone.

On the way back, we stop at roadside stalls for fresh local produce.

  1. Hobart

    This tour travels south of Hobart, along the Huon River through the Huon Valley and into the great Southern Forests. Sitting 50 metres above the Huon River, the Tahune Airwalk is a fun and thrilling adventure walk. After enjoying a bird’s eye view of the world, we then head underground to explore the mysterious labyrinth of caves at the Hastings Caves reserve.

    We start the tour by travelling south of Hobart through the picturesque Huon Valley a region famous for its abundant produce of apples, pears, cherries and fish farming.

    Our first stop for the day is to explore Tahune Adventures with the AirWalk and several forest walks to choose from. We begin with AirWalk and a gentle uphill walk covering 104 steps to reach the elevated walkway which sits 30m high among the treetops. The AirWalk covers 619 metres with the final cantilever section sitting 50m above the Huon River.

  3. Tahune Adventures

    Enjoy the sensation of being suspended above the Huon River with breathtaking views across the treetops and surrounding mountains. We have time to explore and enjoy more walking here at Tahune. For our keen walkers we then continue onwards to the Swinging Bridges Walk. The swing bridge extends 62 metres across the Picton River. This is fun 60 minute walk with two river crossings exploring a beautiful part of Tasmania. . For a “tamer” experience there is the easy 20 minute Huon Pine Walk where these famous and unique local trees grow alongside the river with some as old as 2000 years, a delightful and enchanting short walk.

  4. Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs

    We continue our journey south to the Hastings Cave Reserve. This is a quiet, remote and spectacular area where we enjoy a variety of activities and soak up the unique atmosphere. Bring your swimming gear and jump into the Thermal Springs swimming pool where the water is always 28 degrees, fed by the naturally heated waters of the thermal springs nearby. OR just relax in the beautiful forest surrounds, wander along the Hot Springs Nature Trail where the warm water meets the cool water, and also home to the unique & playful Platypus, keep your eye out for this elusive local.

    We head underground to explore the spectacular cave which is Australia’s largest tourist Dolomite Cave. We join the underground tour expertly conducted by the National Parks & Wildlife guides. The cave temperature is always 9 degrees so bring your jumper along.

  5. Huonville

    Our return to Hobart allows us the opportunity to make some short stops along the way. There is opportunity to stop at the many roadside stalls and collect some delicious local produce such as Cherries, Berries, Apples, Ice-creams and also a stop for a honey tasting along the way. (fruit & produce stops are seasonal)

  • Our General Meet Point is the Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre at 20 Davey Street. The pickup time is 7:25am, be ready at 7:20am. The tour returns to this same location around 6.00pm. Hotel pick up is available from select Hotels. Contact the Tour Operator directly, via email, to enquire.

  • Please make sure you bring a large refillable water bottle, closed sturdy shoes for walking. We recommend runners, sneakers, hiking boots and sensible clothes for outdoor conditions. Warm layers are a great idea! A waterproof rain jacket, just in case.
  • The Hastings Cave Tour is 45 minutes. The Cave temperature is 9 degrees. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are recommended. There are 250 stairs down and up again equipped with handrails. To protect the cave environment backpacks, selfie sticks, tripods, food and drinks are not allowed in the cave.
  • The swimming area is set in a lush forest glade, the pool is fed by mineral-rich thermal springs that remains 28 degrees, year-round. Bring your swim gear and towel if you wish to jump in. There are hot showers and change rooms available.
  • You will have an opportunity to stop enroute to Tahune Airwalk to purchase lunch/snacks to take along with you for your tour day. This stop is in a regional town at a local Bakery. The selection includes sandwiches, rolls, wraps etc. Lunch will be in a picnic area at Hastings Caves
