For the Mount Hollywood Hike we’ll meet you at the Greek Theater. You’ll then hike through the Bird Sanctuary and up into the Hollywood Hills as we tell you about the first inhabitants of Los Angeles, the Tongva. As we climb the hills you’ll see LA spread below you, so it’s a great way to get an understanding of how the city developed and how the different areas connect with each other. From the summit of Mount Hollywood you can see almost the whole of Los Angeles.

After that we’ll follow the trails down, stopping at some of the best spots to get those Instagram shots of the Hollywood Sign, to the Griffith Observatory. We’ll finish your Mount Hollywood Hike by giving you a quick tour of the Observatory, before leaving you to enjoy this fantastic free museum.

    Note: unfortunately you can't get right up to the Hollywood Sign - it's illegal.

    See the city spread below you from the top of the Hollywood Hills, the best view you can get of Los Angeles.

    This is one of the best museums in Los Angeles - and it's free. It occupies a fantastic vantage point over the city, so it's great for photos. Its design is an icon of Streamline Moderne and instantly recognizable from many movies and TV shows. The tour ends here, so you can continue to enjoy it for the rest of the evening.

  • Guide will be checking in guests from 15 minutes before tour begins at the Greek Theatre box office. Be sure to allow extra time for traffic and finding parking. We CANNOT wait for latecomers, there are other guests.

  • The Griffith Observatory is a great free museum, with free wifi, if you need a taxi, and Dash Bus ($0.50) to Sunset Vermont Metro Station (20 minutes). Please note the Observatory is closed Mondays. It's only 10 minutes walk back to the meeting point.

PREPARATION

Be sure to wear comfortable, layered, clothing and shoes (no flip-flops) and remember to bring suncream / sunblock.

Allow PLENTY of time to get to the meeting point. Remember that YOU'RE responsible for getting to the meeting point on time - not us.

TRANSPORT / PARKING

There's free parking at the Greek Theatre - unless there's an event there, in which case parking is hard-to-find and expensive (check lagreektheatre.com to find out). So, please consider taking public transport or a taxi/rideshare. The Dash bus from Sunset and Vermont Metro station is 50c and takes just 10 minutes.

MEETING THE GUIDE

The guide will be checking-in guests from 15 minutes before the tour at the Greek Theatre box office.

Don't worry about us, we've been doing this 10 years - all you need to do is make sure you're there and we'll take care of the rest.

It's very likely there will be other guests on this tour, so we CANNOT hold for latecomers and there is NO phone or email help center, there's no point - you have all the info you need right here.

Please bring a paper or electronic copy of your ticket.

  • Aim to get to the meeting point 10-15 minutes early, since we cannot wait for latecomers (there are other guests). This is LA, there's always traffic.

  • Better than hiking directly to the Hollywood Sign - this route has great views of the sign AND it includes the Griffith Observatory, the Greek Theater, the Bird Sanctuary and a secret garden. It's also a gentler hike.

  • Please check dates/times carefully BEFORE making a booking.

  • Enjoy sunset over LA from Griffith Observatory after the tour. It's one of the best sights the city has to offer and it's the best light for photos.

  • When making a booking please do not assume that you can park at the Greek Theatre. If there is an event there parking is EXTREMELY difficult to find. The BEST way to get there is to take an Uber or the Dash bus for 50c from Sunset and Vermont Metro Station (it takes 10 mins).

  • This is a hike (about 3.5 miles), it’s not suitable for people with mobility issues, a low fitness level or a fear of heights.
